Families Serving in Jacó

It’s been a month since our team of families served in Jacó, Costa Rica. We spent our days serving Ocean’s Edge Ministries and Horizon Church by assisting a baseball camp, painting, and preparing a coffee shop for opening. God was on the move in each of our hearts and in the community. One of the three families shared this about their time in Jacó:

Our family trip to Costa Rica was awesome. It was a time for us to draw closer to God and for Him to stretch us. We learned the comforts of this life are meaningless compared to serving Him.

We served together with two other families. A typical day consisted of waking up and having your own devotional time with the Lord (you could spend whatever time with the Lord but we chose this time), breakfast made by Coco (chef that worked at the ministry site), taxi ride to the church, and at the time we were there the church was holding a baseball camp so we helped in any way that was needed for the camp by playing baseball to serving lunch, then a period of short free time which you could spend time with the Lord or run to the beach for a quick dip, then we served at the ministry site by doing whatever was needed from cleaning to painting, following this time we had dinner, and then did a debrief as a group.

I recommend spending time with your family studying the verses that were given at the debrief as these verses were applicable to your experience there.

Most important is to be FAT (flexible, adaptable, teachable) and to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit because your day could always change.

Allow God to stretch you and you will be filled with His goodness.

Matthew 20:28 “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”

We hope that this blesses you, as it did us; maybe even encourage you to do a short term trip of your own! Continue to pray for Ocean’s Edge Ministries and the work they are doing in Costa Rica, and also for the Lord to water every seed we planted on this trip! Dios les bendiga – God bless you!
